Main Street Washington is proud to administer the Downtown Investment Grant program, made possible through the generosity of the City of Washington and the Washington County Riverboat Foundation’s

Municipal Grant Program. This program is designed to encourage the repair, remodeling, and historic preservation of buildings within our downtown district.

Funding Opportunities We offer two distinct grant tracks to fit the size and scope of your project: DIG (Large-Scale Projects) –Grant Amount: $25,000 to $50,000. –Investment Requirement: Minimum total project investment of $100,000 (3:1 match). –Focus: Major rehabilitations of existing commercial buildings.

Micro-DIG (Small-Scale & Facades) –Grant Amount: Up to $10,000 (1:1 match). –2026 Priority: Preference is given to projects that enhance the "pedestrian experience," such as blade signs or protruding signage. –Focus: Facade improvements, public art, or accessibility upgrades (ADA compliance).

How the Process Works To ensure high-quality results that enhance our district for years to come, all projects follow a structured "Project Team" method. Letter of Intent: Submit the required "Letter of Intent to Participate" form to start the process. –Site Visit: Our Design Committee will meet you at your property to discuss your plans and offer free professional design assistance. –Application: After your site visit, you will complete the official application with contractor bids. –Approval & Construction: Work may begin only after approval from the Main Street Board and City Council. –Reimbursement: Funds are awarded as a reimbursement once the project is completed according to the signed agreement.

Key Guidelines –Timeline: Most projects are expected to be completed within 2 years. –Standards: All work must follow the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation, prioritizing "repair over replace". –Eligibility: Available for existing commercial buildings within the designated Main Street District.
