MSW is a friendly community program established in 2008. We work alongside residents and businesses to improve and maintain our downtown district. Think charming storefronts, vibrant events, and a thriving local economy!
We use a proven approach called the National Main Street Center’s Four Point Approach. This means we focus on improving the Design, Organization, Promotion, and Economic Vitality of our downtown – all with a collaborative spirit!
MSW is a non-profit organization that relies on volunteers and partnerships to make things happen. This ensures a diverse and sustainable downtown that reflects our community’s unique character.

About the Main Street District
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to keep our downtown looking its best? That’s where Main Street Washington (MSW) comes in!
Think of us as your friendly downtown cheerleaders. We cover that charming 7-block by 6-block area centered around the heart of Washington, Central Park. Our main goal? To keep our downtown not just beautiful, but also thriving!
What makes Washington’s downtown so special? It’s the unique personality! Each building tells a story, they were literally constructed one at a time reflecting the styles and dreams of the people who built them. At MSW, we love that history.
That’s why we use a double dose of magic: historic preservation and economic development. We’ve got access to special grants just for Main Street programs, and we work with local owners to breathe new life into these historic buildings.
The result? A vibrant downtown that’s both charming and full of opportunity! We can’t wait for you to visit!
